Working with GRL GRP as the Design Fellows for Headlands Center for the Arts, we crafted an identity system for their Graduate Fellow Exhibition entitled, Counter Cartographies. The exhibition centered around themes of mapping and took inspiration from the work of James Corner (specifically his writings on mapping and his collage work with Alex McLean). Drawing on these references, we created a system made up of historic maps of San Francisco (where the show took place), the graphic language from maps, and shapes taken from the artwork itself. We also applied graphic map elements to an existing, open-source tyface to create custom type for the project.

Once settled on the system, we set about applying it to a variety of campaign assets including social media (both static and motion graphics), email, website, environmental graphics, and a printed handout. Together with another GRL, I designed and printed the handout on the risograph using purple and red ink. This printed piece folded like a map, connecting to the overall theme.
